I am not a Curly Haired Girl. Mine is stick straight and other than being fine when I was young, I don't really have any problems with tangles. My daughter on the other hand is a curly hair mess. She didn't have hair for such a long time, now it's just crazy. I decided today to write a review on three different Hair Detanglers or Leave in Conditioners.
First, Let's start with Sauve for Kids Awesome Apple Detangler. This is a spray on Detangler. It does have an Awesome Apple smell, which is nice. She's only 3 and doesn't need to smell like products, she just needs to smell like a little kid. I like that it makes the hair wet by spraying to help the comb through, since there are some days that we have her wash her hair at night, then we have to deal with morning bed head. It has a no tear formula which is a plus when trying to spray a wiggly child, mis-sprays happen. This product is light when it dries and doesn't weigh the hair down but I don't feel that it helps too much with the bad snarls. I feel I have to really soak the hair, wet or dry to have the comb slide through the hair nicely without pulling to hard. I also don't feel that this product conditions the hair to protect the ends so we still have to use an in bath/wash out conditioner. This product is reasonably priced.
The Johnson & Johnson No More Tangle Leave In Conditioner, is a creamy gel like substance that you massage into the hair. I feel this only works on fresh wet hair. I tried to massage it into the hair after it had dried a little but was still damp and it was quite hard to work through the hair. It has a simple scent, so not to over power a tiny person. Once worked into the hair I was able to get the comb to glide through the hair without a lot of hang ups. It seemed like I had to use a lot of product, a big palmful to cover all the curls. It leaves the curls with great definition, almost looks "crunchy" like using a lot of hairspray but the hair is soft to the touch. This product seems to even work overnight. Waking up the next day the bed head seems to be more controlled. This product is a little more pricey for a child's hair product but Johnson & Johnson offers coupons sometimes so that helps.
Our Favorite is Paul Mitchell The Conditioner. This is a gel that is massaged into the hair. I found that this product can be used on wet or dry hair. The comb helped to spread the product through the hair so a little goes a long way. It leaves the curls well defined and hair soft. When it dries it doesn't weigh the hair down. I believe it helps protect the ends, since they seem to recieve the most abuse, being involved in most of the snarls. I love this product, the only thing is that it has an adult product smell, making my baby seem more grown up. The price of this product is higher than the others but I think it does the best at overall conditioning the hair as well as detangling so we don't use an in bath/wash out conditioner.
In the end we are going to stick with the Paul Mitchell, it seems to be worth the cost. No fighting over getting her hair combed...Priceless.
